I was expecting to be blown away and immediately consider trading, and I wasn't. If I was shopping between the two stock I'd lean fiesta

That's not really fair though. It wouldn't have won me over with recaros.
Keep in mind, I already have a hot little hatch. It had to be amazing to convince me to buy it. If I was shopping to replace my Kia again I'd have leaned Fiesta, but honestly I think I'd still buy the Sonic. I don't know, I honestly haven't made that conclusion yet. It's that close.

I average about 28 driving relatively enthusiastically around suburbia. It'll get close to 40 doing 65 on the highway, basically 30 doing 80.

I think you're making the right decision. I also think a modded Sonic is the right decision. I mostly can't wait to see what the next Sonic does.
I really want impressions the other way. conrader is picking up a FiST right now in Salina, hopefully we can get together sometime and he can try my car.

Everyone says that, but I'm 6'4" 250 lbs, and I think the Recaros are very comfortable. Personal preference I guess, but I feel like they're giving me a meaningful but firm bro-hug from behind — except not as weird as that sounds.

Yeah, you're the right size. I'm 5'8" 205. It squeezes me too much. I want to like them but I can't, as a track car/occasional use I think it's fine, but DD it's too stiff and tight

Just to be clear that I'm not reading something wrong or the other way around, I am quite a bit larger than you, and I like the snug fit.
Still, I think we can all agree that it is all down to personal preference. It's too bad the Fiesta was hyped to oblivion for you. I guess I came in to it fresh, and it wasn't soiled for me.

You're taller, and I bet at 6'4" and 250 you're a bit less round around the bolsters.
That's a guess though, I don't know what it's like to be tall.
I don't like to look at it the way you do as far as the hype. It's not a shame it was hyped to oblivion, I'm happy with my car. It's not a bad car, but neither is the Sonic.
